Property for sale (real estate) in Hermanus, Sandbaai Some useful information regarding Sandbaai located in Western Cape, Hermanus
About Sandbaai
Hermanus (originally called Hermanuspietersfontein) is a town with 49,000 inhabitants on the southern coast of the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is famous as a place from which to watch whales during the southern winter and spring and is a popular retirement town and holiday destination. The whales can be seen from the cliffs in the town centre from as early as June.
The Western Capeseaside resort of Hermanus is one of South Africa’s favourite destinations. Sandbaai is one of the newer suburbs in the Greater Hermanusarea that lies literally in a little sandy bay, hence its name, and is proving to be immensely popular with many holidaymakers. Sandbaai is only a stone’s throw away from Hermanus and in very close proximity to the holiday haunt of Onrus and a little over an hour’s drive from Cape Town. Home owners describe the area as peaceful, decadent and exquisitely beautiful.
The houses range from holiday homes to more permanent residences. Just behind Sandbaai, the Hemel-en-Aarde village has a large variety of shops, farm stalls, galleries, studios, jewelers and restaurants, and the Hermanus wine route is a popular way to spend most of a day. But it is Sandbaai’s position between the sea and the slopes of the Onrust Mountains, between Onrus River and Hermanus that places it in one of the most beautiful parts of the world.
Sandbaai is popular because of its diverse natural beauty, tranquil atmosphere and inspiring sea and mountain views.
The Sandbaai beach is lined with rock pools and caves and offers safe swimming, snorkelling and diving. Walking trails along the Sandbaaicoastline are rich with fynbos, and this is a popular spot from which to view seasonal Southern Right whales and dolphins.
